TalkTV guest details Notting Hill Carnival arrests, officer safety concerns and two-tier policing claims

Aug 30, 2026

The segment features host and retired DCI Mike Neville discussing UK politics including potential Reform-Tory pacts, Labour under PM Andy Burnham, immigration, early prisoner releases and crime. It then turns to Notting Hill Carnival policing ahead of the 2026 event. Neville, drawing on his police experience and a Police Federation survey, highlights officer safety fears, crowd crush risks, arrests for drugs/weapons/assaults on police, and claims officers hesitate on enforcement due to flare-up risks and accusations of racism. He proposes moving the event to Hyde Park with fencing and entry fees. Over 7,000 officers are typically deployed.
