Patricia Castaneda

Patricia Castaneda, an immigrant from Venezuela and longtime Spokane resident, co-founded Manzanita House in 2021 to address gaps in support for newcomers. As executive director, she has grown the nonprofit from a small volunteer effort into a regional organization serving over 1,000 people annually with immigration legal services, resource navigation, and cultural programs.

The group offers practical help such as Women’s Teatime gatherings for language practice and connection, bilingual resources for Afghan women, and partnerships with local agencies for housing and healthcare. Castaneda also chairs the Washington State Refugee Advisory Council, advocating for policy changes that benefit refugees and immigrants from more than 70 countries.

Her approach emphasizes servant leadership and cultural humility, drawing on her own experiences as a single mother navigating resettlement. Programs prioritize dignity and belonging, helping participants build confidence while connecting with broader community resources.

Castaneda’s work strengthens Spokane by fostering inclusion and mutual support, turning challenges of migration into opportunities for shared growth and stability.
